What Is Gold Needle?
Gold needle is the popular name for fractional radiofrequency (RF) microneedling. Fine, gold-plated and often insulated needles enter the skin at a set depth and deliver radiofrequency energy from their tips. This way, the energy is carried to the deeper layers while largely sparing the skin surface.
The controlled heat that results stimulates the remodeling of collagen fibers and the production of new collagen. Because it brings together the effects of both microneedling and radiofrequency, gold needle is one of the options considered when skin firmness and texture are the goal.
Delivering the energy to the deeper layers rather than the surface keeps surface damage limited. Compared with some laser treatments, this feature may allow more flexible use across different skin tones; still, suitability is evaluated individually for each person.
Who Is It Suitable For?
- People starting to notice mild to moderate skin laxity and sagging
- People with visible pores and oily skin
- People with acne scars and superficial scars
- Those experiencing loss of tissue quality in the neck and upper chest area
- Those who want to reduce the look of stretch marks
- People with darker skin who are concerned about the risk of dark spots after laser (with physician evaluation)
In cases of pronounced sagging, advanced tissue loss or situations that require surgery, gold needle alone may have difficulty meeting expectations. In such cases, combining it with other methods or referring you to the relevant specialty is considered.
How Is the Procedure Performed?
- The skin is cleansed, a numbing cream is applied and left on so that it takes effect.
- The area is wiped with an antiseptic; needle depth and energy level are adjusted according to skin thickness.
- The handpiece is applied to the skin at short intervals, systematically covering the treatment area.
- After the procedure, cooling and soothing care are applied.
The treatment can be done on the face, neck, upper chest and body areas with stretch marks. You may feel brief warmth and pricking during the session; the numbing cream largely reduces this sensation.
What to Pay Attention to Afterward
- Avoid makeup for the first 24 hours.
- Stay away from hot environments, saunas and intense exercise for a few days.
- Pause products with active ingredients for as long as your physician recommends.
- Use a moisturizer and sunscreen regularly.
- Do not rub the skin; let any fine scabs that form fall off on their own.
Possible Side Effects and Who Should Not Have It
Redness, mild swelling, tenderness and small marks at the needle entry points may occur; these usually resolve within a few days. Rarely, bruising, infection or temporary color changes may develop.
The treatment is not recommended for people with a pacemaker or implanted electronic device, during pregnancy and breastfeeding, if there is an active infection or open wound in the treatment area, in people prone to keloids and in some autoimmune or uncontrolled chronic conditions. A metal implant in the area is also evaluated separately.
Dr. Fulya Koç’s Approach
Dr. Fulya Koç plans gold needle as part of a healthy-aging strategy, with the aim of strengthening the skin’s own supporting structure. She openly shares that it may not be enough on its own for pronounced sagging and keeps expectations realistic. If needed, a gradual and measured plan is created with different methods.
Gold needle can be thought of less as a way to look younger and more as a step aimed at aging well and preserving skin quality over the years. Sun protection and regular home care after sessions help maintain the collagen support obtained.

Frequently asked questions
Dermapen stimulates collagen with microneedling alone, while gold needle also delivers radiofrequency energy deep into the skin through the needles. This heat effect may provide an additional contribution, especially for skin firmness and the treatment of deeper scars; recovery time is similar or slightly longer.
In the first weeks the skin may look more vibrant, but because collagen renewal takes time, the main change is usually noticed gradually within 2–3 months as the sessions are completed.
Because the energy delivered to the skin surface is limited, it is more flexible than some lasers; still, if there will be intense sun exposure, it is recommended to postpone it and to protect the skin carefully from the sun after the procedure.
