Salmon DNA Treatment (Polynucleotide)

What Is Salmon DNA Treatment?

Salmon DNA treatment is the application to the skin of purified DNA fragments (polynucleotides) obtained from the reproductive cells of fish such as salmon. Known in the literature as polynucleotides (PN) or PDRN, these components are known for supporting the skin’s repair processes and tissue renewal.

The aim of polynucleotide treatment is to help improve the skin’s hydration, elasticity and texture. It does not add volume; it is considered a regenerative method that supports the skin’s own renewal capacity, particularly in thin and sensitive skin.

Polynucleotides are thought to create an environment that supports the repair processes of skin cells and contributes to tissue renewal. For this reason, they have been studied not only for aesthetic purposes but also in other medical areas such as wound healing. Products go through refinement and purification processes before use.

Because salmon DNA treatment does not add volume or change facial contours, results are noticed more in the skin’s texture, radiance and elasticity. Change appears gradually as sessions progress and varies from person to person.

Who Is It Suitable For?

  • Those with fine lines around the eyes and thinned skin
  • People whose skin looks dry, tired and has lost elasticity
  • Those with superficial post-acne marks and uneven texture
  • Those looking for a gentler regenerative approach because of sensitive skin
  • Those who want to support skin quality on the neck and décolleté

Because the cause of dark circles or hollowness under the eyes can differ from person to person, it is important that this distinction is made at the consultation before treatment.

How Is the Treatment Done?

  1. At the consultation, your skin is assessed; any history of allergy to fish or seafood is specifically asked about.
  2. The skin is cleansed, prepared with an antiseptic, and numbing cream may be applied for comfort.
  3. The product is applied to the chosen areas in small points with very fine needles or with a cannula.
  4. After the procedure the area is soothed and care recommendations are shared.

Depending on the size of the area, the procedure usually takes 20–30 minutes. A few weeks are allowed between sessions to assess how the skin has responded.

What to Pay Attention to Afterward

  • It is recommended that you do not touch or press the small bumps that form at the injection points.
  • Avoid makeup, saunas, steam baths and intense exercise for the first 24 hours.
  • For a few days, you may pause strong acids, peels and products containing retinoids.
  • Using sunscreen regularly supports the skin’s repair process.
  • If the treatment was applied around the eyes, take care not to rub the area on the first day.

Possible Side Effects and Who Should Not Have It

Small blisters, redness, mild swelling and bruising may appear at the injection points; these usually go away within 1–2 days. In thin-skinned areas such as around the eyes, bruising may last a little longer. Rarely, an allergic reaction or infection may develop.

It is not performed on people with an allergy to fish or seafood. It is also not preferred during pregnancy and breastfeeding, if there is an active infection or cold sore in the treatment area, or in cases of hypersensitivity to the product’s ingredients.

If there are symptoms that suggest an allergy, such as widespread redness, itching or shortness of breath, or signs of infection, you need to seek medical help immediately.

Dr. Fulya Koç’s Approach

Dr. Fulya Koç sees polynucleotide treatments as a step that supports the skin’s repair capacity rather than changing it from the outside. This approach is in line with a biostimulation philosophy that trusts the skin’s ability to renew itself.

At the Ataşehir clinic, salmon DNA treatment is mostly considered as part of the skin’s overall care plan. In sensitive areas such as around the eyes, proceeding in a measured and gradual way is important for a natural result.

The session plan is updated according to your skin’s response; settling for fewer sessions if necessary is also part of this approach.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, fine lines around the eyes and thinned skin are among the areas where polynucleotide treatments are commonly considered. However, because the cause of hollowness or discoloration under the eyes can be different, it should first be assessed at an examination.

The duration of the effect varies from person to person. After the initial course, a maintenance session every few months may be planned depending on the condition of the skin.

This treatment is not preferred for people with an allergy to fish or seafood. In this case, other regenerative options suitable for your skin’s needs can be considered at the consultation.

Both are DNA-derived components; the main difference relates to molecule chain length and product formulation. Which product is used is determined according to the target area and the skin’s needs.

The information on this page is general. Whether the treatment suits you, its possible risks and the results you can expect are assessed individually at your consultation. Results vary from person to person. Image is illustrative.
